Murray Street Vineyards - Black Label Mataro 2012

    AU$25.00

We love Mataro, also known as Mourvedre or Monastrell by people who can pronounce such words. Often used in blends of wine, it is a special treat to get to have some as single varietal wine. If you love deep reds, then you have to try some of this. There’s hints of liquorice and dark dried fruits with subtle tannins as well as a solid mouth feel. Aromas of freshly made smallgoods, ripe stone fruits and a hint of Moroccan spice combine to fill the palate with flavours and textures to sip on for hours. Learn More

  7. Murray Street Vineyards - MSV 'Benno' Shiraz Mataro 2006

Murray Street Vineyards - MSV 'Benno' Mataro Shiraz 2006

    AU$120.00

Benno is one of MSV's signature wineS and is a wonderful example of Mataro Shiraz, getting a 96 by James Halliday and a Gold in the Decanter Awards. Andrew Seppelt (The Winemaker) says,

"I became a big fan of blending Mataro in with Shiraz while working in France. Mataro is a dark and brooding varietal and when blended with Shiraz, if done correctly, produces a distinctively masculine element to the wine."

Benno is produced in years that show the character of the old Barossa grape growers and winemakers. Blending Mataro and Shiraz, two of the stalwarts of the region, provides the richness and robustness necessary to help honour the origins of this wonderful wine region. A brooding powerful palate, with rich concentration of fruit - the resulting wine tells the story of Benno beautifully. The MSV Benno has received its share of critical acclaim including the Blue Gold award at the Sydney Wine and Food Competition.

"Bottom line. This is an epic wine and should be enjoyed in an epic way! We can't recommend enough how good this wine is! A Must try"

    WINEMAKER’S COMMENTS

"On any given year we pick and ferment Shiraz, Grenache, Mataro, Cinsaut, and a host of other grape varieties to build a wine that I think best expresses the Barossa for that year. For 2007 the wine is Shiraz dominant, but I am amazed, yet again, at the positive difference small percentages of things like Mataro and Cinsaut can make." The Barossa is a traditional blend in this region is to combine Shiraz, Grenache and Mataro so we consider the name „The Barossa‟ an apt description. Amber and I (Wine Buzz) love this wine. It is often seen on the table for dinner or an open bottle on the bench that was left over from the night before. Usually some will then go in the Bolognese and the rest in my glass, cause the chef needs wine to work right? "The Barossa" is robust yet soft, with flavours of Blackberry and ripe plums and incredible spice like star anise. It matches so well with almost every food and it gives you that wonderful feeling of home, no matter where that might be. Also at this price, it is an absolute steal and I can already see our wallet going dry. Please try some you will not regret it. Learn More
